Bags, food and sunscreen packed, we board on our 4x4 Vehicle for the Okavango Delta, the only inland delta of its kind in the world. Our local guides, familiar to the region, gently pole us out onto the narrow flat waterway on mokoro’s to our camp, we will relax and enjoy a nice prepared lunch. The afternoon is spent either on a nature walk with our local guides, viewing hippo from your mokoro or simply resting. The nights are enjoyed with sounds of wild animals in the distance around our campfire with our guides singing traditional Tswana songs. The Okavango Delta (or Okavango Grassland) in Botswana is a very large inland delta formed where the Okavango River reaches a tectonic trough in the central part of the endorheic basin of the Kalahari. All the water reaching the Delta is ultimately evaporated and transpired, and does not flow into any sea or ocean. The Moremi Game Reserve, a National Park, is on the eastern side of the Delta. This statistical significance helped the Okavango Delta secure a position as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, . The area was once part of Lake Makgadikgadi, an ancient lake that mostly dried up by the early Holocene. Although the Okavango Delta is widely believed to be the world's largest inland delta, it is not. In Africa alone there are two larger similar geological features: the Sudd on the Nile in South Sudan, and the Inner Niger Delta in Mali.

- Petrified Forest, Welwitschia Mirabilis Welwitschia mirabilis is the only member in the family Welwitschiaceae and is one of the more bizarre plants on the planet. It was named after Friedrich Welwitsch, an Austrian naturalist who explored Africa in the 1800's. Welwitschia is the most incredible plant that he encountered. It is native to a strip of land about 50 miles wide and over 500 miles in length along the coast of the Namib Desert. In habitat, these plants get less than one inch of rainfall per year. But because of a cold, coastal ocean current, this area also gets a regular fog, adding almost another two inches of precipitation. As a result, these plants in nature are slow growing and can live to be 2000 years old!! They are coning plants with male and female cones on separate plants Female cones below; male cones middle right. They produce only two true leaves in their lifetime and those leaves continually grow from the base, all the while, dying back and drying off at the tips.
